Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to questions we get asked from time to time:

Why are there both yellow and white kernals?

We grow two types of "butterfly style" popcorn. The yellow is standard and the white is "hull-less." This makes for a unique, interesting, crunchy mix.

What is meant by "butterfly style"?

Popcorn comes in, basically, two types: butterfly and mushroom. The names refer to their shape when popped....One resembles a butterfly and the other a mushroom. We prefer butterfly style because it's crunchier.

Why is there a random purple or red or orange or black kernal in my jar?

We grow our popcorn right next to our legacy corn (also known as Indian Corn) so sometimes the corn cross-pollinates and you get a bit of the legacy corn in the popcorn. It's very natural and perfectly safe to eat....maybe even kinda cool.

Why are there white flakes in the jar?

That's just some of the ear that comes off during the shelling process. It usually burns up during popping but it's totally normal and healthy to eat. We don't run our popcorn through large machines or processes....it's straight from the farm to your home and that's one of the reasons the popcorn is so darn good and fresh!
